Insurance & billing.

We'll help you understand your coverage. Call 404-645-7150 with your plan details and our team will confirm what your plan needs.

Accepted insurance

Georgia Nephrology accepts most insurance plans and files claims with most insurance companies.

Coverage can differ between plans from the same insurer, and what you'll owe depends on your specific plan. The surest answer is a quick call: call 404-645-7150 with your plan details and our team will confirm your coverage before your visit.

What you'll pay at your visit

We ask that you pay any required amount at the time of service. That's your copay, or the full visit charge if you don't carry insurance. If you have an outstanding balance on your account, our staff will let you know before your appointment.

We accept cash, check, and credit cards — MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express.

If you're unsure what you'll owe, call 404-645-7150 and ask for the billing department before your visit. It's a much easier conversation to have in advance.

Referrals

Whether you need a referral depends on your insurance plan, not on us. If your plan requires one, we'll attempt to obtain it from your primary care physician before your visit — but making sure it reaches us in time is ultimately your responsibility. If your PCP doesn't provide it, we'll contact you — either for your help in chasing it, or to reschedule so you're not left with an unexpected bill.

If you're not sure whether your plan needs a referral, call our billing department before your appointment and we'll check with you.

Cancellations and no-shows

We do our best to schedule your appointment in a timely manner, and appointment slots are limited. If you need to cancel, please tell us more than 24 hours ahead.

For a no-show, or a cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice, we charge $50 for a new patient and $25 for an established patient.

Prescription refills

Bring all of your medications to every appointment, including anything over the counter. At your visit we'll provide enough medication to last until your next one.

If you need a refill between visits:

  • Ask your pharmacy to submit an electronic refill request — the fastest route — or send a request through the patient portal. You can also call 404-645-7150 and choose option 3 for the prescription refill line. That line is voicemail, so leave a message — no one picks up, and a message left there is a request received.
  • We address refill requests within 48 hours.
  • After hours or at weekends, the on-call physician can refill for up to 5 days only, to carry you to the next business day.
  • Controlled medications are refilled only during appointments — no exceptions.
  • If your medication needs a prior authorization renewed, your refill may be delayed. We submit these promptly, but the timing of the approval sits with your insurance company.

Forms we complete

FMLA forms: please allow up to 10 working days. These forms are detailed, and there's a $25 fee payable before completion.

Long-term disability forms: Georgia Nephrology does not complete these.

Refunds

If you're due a refund and it hasn't reached you, call 404-645-7150 and ask for the billing department so we can check your account is posted correctly.

Medical records

To request or release medical records, use the Medical Records Release form on the Patient Forms page, or call 404-645-7150 and we'll help.

These policies are also set out in the Office Policies & Procedures form you'll sign at your first visit, available on the Patient Forms page.
