Nephrologist
Shailaja Chidella, MD
About Dr. Chidella
Dr. Chidella was born and raised in Hyderabad, India, where she also completed medical school. She went on to do her internal medicine residency in New Jersey and her nephrology fellowship in New York.
Dr. Chidella considers each patient's kidney disease in the context of their other conditions, their medications, and their overall health, and builds an individualized plan that addresses the broader clinical picture rather than the kidneys alone. Patient education is central to how she practices — she wants patients to understand their kidney function, their lab results, how their disease is progressing, and the reasoning behind the treatment plan, in terms that are clear and meaningful to them. She encourages questions and welcomes concerns, so that every patient leaves feeling reassured, informed, and confident that they are working together to protect their kidney health and overall well-being.
Outside of work, Dr. Chidella spends her days off with her husband and their two children. As a family of four they love to travel and explore new places together.
