About Sumy Thakolkaran

Ms. Thakolkaran has been a nurse for more than eighteen years, over fifteen of those in dialysis. Her path to nephrology was personal as well as professional — her father-in-law spent about ten years on dialysis, and that experience is what led her to dialysis nursing in the first place. Once she became an advanced practice provider, there was never any question about staying in nephrology.

Her care starts with listening. Most of her patients are on dialysis and are managing major lifestyle changes alongside the medical ones, so her goal is compassionate, personalized care that supports both their physical health and their overall well-being.

Outside of work, Ms. Thakolkaran enjoys spending time with family and friends, gardening, taking on DIY projects, and — still a work in progress — learning to sew.
